“Hidden” eating disorders

This Huffington Post  blog is eye-opening and heart breaking all at the same time. There are so many young people who suffer silently with not just eating disorders,  but a variety of mental health issues that leave them fragile and vulnerable. Our heart goes out to this young woman and we hope she finds the help she needs to heal.

We need to be there for our young people. Don’t wait till there is a problem to ask your child/teen “how are you doing?”  Slow down and really take a look at your child/teen. Do they need help? Maybe we’re simply talking about a tutor for the math class that’s giving them such a hard time, but maybe there’s more going on. Who are the friends that they hang out with, or do they? What are there sleeping and eating habits? These are all things that can be signals that your child/teen is struggling.

We are proud of our partnership with Center for Hope of the Sierras, a comprehensive eating disorder program. We meet with a small group once a week and provide equine interventions designed to improve communications, build self-esteem, strengthen personal boundaries and provide “ah ha moments” of self awareness.

If you or someone you love is struggling with an eating disorder or other social, emotional or behavioral issues, please call us. We will schedule a visit for you to meet our incredible horses, tour the ranch, tell us more about what you are dealing with and share more about how we may be able to help.
