ADHD is Complicated

Usually a first line of treatment for children struggling with ADHD is medication. The though goes ‘if we can just get them to sit still and focus, they will do better’.

Therefore it surprising and a bit alarming, that this new study finds that medication alone is not enough. The research conducted at the University of Glasgow in Scotland and published in JAMA Pediatrics show that not only do kids continue to struggle in school, but that they are at higher risk of hospitalization for injuries.

There certainly can be many factors that would explain this, from a challenging home life to struggle with peer interactions among others. The fact is that there are a variety of treatment options that can augment what medication alone is able to do. Nevada Equine Assisted Therapy can be a wonderful option for addressing very specific behaviors that those with ADHD deal with. We can increase focus, decrease impulsivity, boost self confidence and help kids/teens develop more appropriate social interaction skills ALL through work with horses.

If you or someone you know is struggling with ADHD, we are happy to be part of the treatment team! Call or email and we will schedule a visit to the ranch. We will show you around, learn more about what you are dealing with and share how work with horses may be able to help.
