Challenges to insurance coverage for those with Autism

We have all celebrated the recent legislative victories, in many states, that have mandated that insurance carriers provide coverage for a variety of services, including ABA treatment/therapy.

However, the battle is certainly not over. This article talks about the fight taking place in Florida over the “medical necessity” for ABA treatment/therapy/services.

I find this particularly interesting, as I spent many years battling with insurance carriers over the medical necessity of insulin pumps for diabetics. I understand how insurance companies can use the question of “medical necessity” to delay or even deny benefits that are clearly covered under the insured’s policy.

We may very well be joining this fight in the future, as co-founder, Bambi Spahr, will be applying to the NV State Board of Psychological Examiners to become a Certified Autism Behavior Interventionist (CABI). Once she has her certification, we will be partnering with a Licensed, Board Certified Applied Behavior Analyst to provide ABA based interventions through work with horses. We are excited about this project and will keep you posted on our progress.

As always, we would love to show you around the ranch, introduce you to our wonderful horses and to share more with you about how our program works. Call us today to schedule a visit.
