Finding a place in the grown up world for those with Autism

Temple Grandin copyRecently I had the privilege of hearing Dr. Temple Grandin speak. Through the years she has advocated for many things to help those on the spectrum. Her latest call is for job skills training “find what your kid is good at and see if there is a job out there where those skills can work”.

This article, in the Washington Post, discusses how with the increased number of people diagnosed with Autism, we OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAhad better be looking for ways to help people on the spectrum become engaged and productive members of our society and looks at what some programs are doing to make this happen.

In our work with people on the spectrum we often see skills and abilities develop that we never could have dreamed of. Increased focus, improved communication, decreased anxiety over new situations are just some of P1130564the things that may be seen.
