Meet The Herd: Ruby

Name: Ruby

Age: 25

Breed: American Bashkir Curly

Hello! My name is Ruby.

I am a 25 year old American Bashkir Curly and I’ve been part of the NEAT herd since its founding!

Due to severe allergies and sensitive eyes, I wear ultra-cool looking sunglasses when working with clients. And, perhaps much like many of my clients, I am not a fan of taking my medications!  Her thick wavy coat, protect her and cold climate. She has curly “feathers” above her hooves. Considered strong and sure, this breed is also known for gentle, quiet temperament, and unflappable nature. These qualities make Ruby a perfect horse for the therapy program! Ruby started her life as a brood mare- a horse to breed babies. She was donated to NEAT in 2010 when her previous owners decided to no longer breed her. She was only “green broke” at the time meaning she could be ridden at the walk and trot, but did not have a lot of riding experience. We saw how quiet and easy-going she was, her gift is as she’s very intuitive and congruent. She can tell how someone is feeling and reflect this back to the person, helping them to understand themselves and how their feelings affect others.
