Tip of the week 11/19

We have discovered a couple of great little books written by David Niven, Ph.d. entitled “The 100 simple secrets of Happy People” and “The 100 simple secrets of Happy Families”. The most interesting thing about these “secrets” is that they are all based on research.  We will post a weekly tip at the ranch and here for you to consider…

Don’t confuse stuff with success.

You are neither a better or worse person for the kind of car you drive, the size of your home, or the performance of your mutual funds. Remember what really matters in your life.

Especially at this time of year, we all want to take the time to appreciate the things and people in our lives that mean the most to us.

Our wish for you is that your life be full of loving friends and family. Remember that being a good friend and family member is an important part of having these relationships. In our work with horses we are able to show our clients how to build and maintain  mutually respectful and bonded relationships.

We wish you work that fulfills you and is meaningful. Finding what you are meant to do can be so challenging. All work can be worthwhile and meaningful, but not for every person. Sometimes the work you do pays the bills and allows you to pursue other things that gives your life meaning. That makes sense too.

And we wish you a life filled with joy and beauty. These are things that you can find in the everyday if you look closely. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.

In a study using surveys and daily observation, the availability of material resources was nine times less important to happiness than the availability of “personal” resources such friends and family.                                                      Diener and Fujita 995
