Trauma Has Long Term Consequences

It is impressive to see more and more research being done, and information coming out, about how devastating early trauma can be. It is often said that when we know better, we can do better and this is especially true as we come to understand the impact trauma has on our lives.

Congratulations to Dr. Stacy Drury of Tulane University on her national award for her research showing how trauma seeps across generations.  This article in Tulane University Press talks about her research into “how a mother’s experiences, both before and during pregnancy, influence their infants’ development.” When we know of this risk, we can take steps to help with healing and break the cycle.

There has been a lot written about how powerful work with horses can be in helping people heal from trauma, and we personally see this in the work that we do. Through work with horses we can address issues such as:

  • Trust
  • Boundaries
  • Confidence
  • Assertiveness
  • Communication
  • Relationships
  • Embodied Mindfulness
  • Problem Solving

just to name a few. Work with horses offers a non-judgemental and mildly challenging experience that allows participants to grow, learn and heal.

If you know someone who is struggling to find a path to healing, give us a call or send us an email. We can schedule an appointment for a tour of the ranch. We will introduce our wonderful herd, learn more about the issues being faced and share how we may be able to help.
