It’s hard to believe, but new research is indicating that girls as young as 3 have already learned that being ‘fat’ is a bad thing.
In this article researchers note that given a choice, three year old girls will state that the ‘thin’ doll is prettier, though her face and clothing are the same as the larger size doll and will choose to play with the thin doll about 70% of the time.
There is certainly concern that this type of early attitude “can help fuel eating disorders such as anorexia” not to mention negatively impacting young girls self-esteem.
We have to actively do things that will help our children see themselves in a more positive way. Work with horses can help build self confidence, shifting attention away from the way we look to what we are capable of. Horses are non-judgmental and accepting of us in so many ways.
We would love to meet with you, show you around, introduce you to our wonderful horses and share more with you about how our program works. Call or email to schedule a visit.
