The more we learn the more we discover we don’t know. What I believe is clear to us today is that there is no one thing that ’causes’ autism. New research finds a link between exposure to air pollution and the incidence of autism.
All of the information about possible causes is fascinating, but for most families the focus is on “So how do I help my child?”
It is pretty well known that early intervention is vitally important. Here at N.E.A.T. we work with children as young as 4 years of age. We work with the treatment team to support the goals that the have been established for the child. We may work on increased focus, self-soothing skills, decreased impulsivity, improved communication or maybe on increased self-awareness, among other things. Each client is viewed as an individual. They will work one-on-one with a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) and their horse, to address their specific goals. We work with teens on improving problems solving skills, decreasing social anxiety, improved communication and much more. Horses have something to offer everyone.
If you know of a child or teen on the autism spectrum, we would love to show you around, introduce you to our wonderful horses, learn more about the challenges you deal with and share how we might be able to help. Call or email to schedule a visit.
