It’s not about the food folks. Eating disorders, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating…there are more, but you get the idea, are symptoms of an underlying mental health issue.
Carrie Dennett in a special report for the The Seattle Times, does a good job of looking at the dynamics of this often life-threatening disorder.
We are very proud of the work that we do with the Center for Hope of the Sierras, a nationally recognized comprehensive eating disorder treatment program. In our work with the group from Hope we focus on establishing stronger personal boundaries, developing greater self confidence, improving self-esteem, improving communication and being ‘present in the moment’. All of this through work with horses. From the ground up. Leading. Grooming. Playing ‘games’. Understanding horse/herd behavior. And even riding.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder SEEK HELP. Equine Assisted Therapy can be a wonderful part of a comprehensive treatment plan. If you would like to come out for a visit, give us a call or send us an email. We will show you around, introduce you to the horses, learn more about the challenges you are dealing with and share how we may be able to help.
