In our work with families dealing with ADHD, there is often uncertainty about whether to utilize medication to address some of the symptoms.
This article shares one mother’s decision and how she reached it.
Always, whether to medicate or not, is a personal and individual choice. I can share that as a child my mother also faced this quandary. Both my mother and I can remember teachers repeatedly say, “if Laurie would only apply herself.” I was diagnosed with ADHD, but in retrospect, believe that I was actually suffering from PTSD. My father had died suddenly and our family did not know how to deal with the loss and grief in an appropriate way. This kind of trauma can absolutely lead to PTSD and recent research has exposed the fact that PTSD often presents as ADHD. This makes sense to me, as, those with PTSD often become hyper-sensitive to everything going on around them.
In our work with horses we may work on increasing focus, decreasing impulsivity and building self esteem, all issue that those living with ADHD may be dealing with.
We would love to meet with you, show you around the ranch, introduce our wonderful horse, learn more about your situation and share more about how our program may be able to help. Call us today to schedule a visit.
