This article shares the concerns of many. With states slashing budgets all across the country, there is much fear (justifiable!) that many of those with the greatest need will find the programs that help them survive eliminated.
We work with one of many children who may be effected. I will tell you that his family will be devastated. Not only would he no longer be able to participate in the Equine Therapy that has made such a difference in his life, but the child care program, where he receives additional support, would be eliminated. This program is important not only for the social interaction that place, but the respite the family receives by having a few extra hours when they are not the focus of his behaviors.
We urge you to let our legislature know that cutting services for families living with autism is UNACCEPTABLE!
