Interesting new research is pointing to a correlation between childhood abuse and adult ADHD. However, what I find most interesting is that there is also research that indicates that we may, in some cases, be misdiagnosing PTSD, as ADHD.
Depending on when childhood trauma occurs, brain development can be affected, sometimes causing the brain to remain in a younger, less mature emotional state, which can manifest in ADHD type symptoms. The longer the brain remains in this state, without intervention, the harder it becomes to ‘rewire’ the brain to process things in a more mature way.
We work with children, teens and adults, many of whom are dealing with ADHD, PTSD, as well as a variety of other social, emotional, behavioral and mental health issues. Through work with horses we may address increasing focus, decreasing impulsivity, developing self-soothing techniques and any number of other goals. Our program revolves around each client’s individual issues and covers work with horses from the ground up.
Is you or someone you know is dealing with ADHD or its symptoms, we may be able to help. Call or email us to schedule a visit. We will show you around our ranch, introduce you to our wonderful horses, learn more about what you are dealing with and share who we may be able to help.
