Equine Therapy for prison inmates

This blog from PsychCentral.com, talks about many of the aspects of Equine Therapy that can be helpful for a correctional facility population. However, the resources it quotes are from other studies that point out the benefits of Equine Therapy anyone dealing with mental health – social, emotional or behavioral issues.

The statistics are actually pretty alarming as to the number of people in prison who suffer from mental health issues.  Wouldn’t it be better if  we addressed the underlying issues before someone ends up in jail?

In our work with children and teens we address the social, emotional and behavioral issues that are making their lives challenging. This may include difficulty in school, in social interactions or in dealing with other family members. It may be that we work on increasing focus and decreasing impulsivity. It may be that we address defiant and resistant behaviors or that we work on building self-confidence. Each client’s goals are specific to them, but through their work with horses, our clients can experience life changing growth that alters the path in front of them.

If you or someone you love is dealing with social, emotional and behavioral challenges, please give us a call. We would love to introduce you to our wonderful horses, show you around the ranch, learn more about what you’re situation and share how we might be able to help.

Being the National Director for Prison Fellowship in Tonga, I am seeking assistance and additional information on Equine therapy as a new way of helpting inmates in this country. When this is seen as a way forward, Tonga can pioneer this cause for the rest of the Pacific Islands.

Look forward to hearing from you.
